Walking into Excelsior International School in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, I was immediately drawn to the environment of this 20-acre modern campus. The most immediate impression the school gave me is that it is fully equipped with modern facilities.

On campus, I saw many modern facilities: an Olympic-size 50 meter swimming pool, a 25 meter training pool, a FIFA standard artificial turf soccer field, a tennis court, a large hall enough to accommodate 500 people, a science lab, and so on. In addition, Excelsior International School places top priority in student safety. All access from people outside of the campus must strictly abide by the entry-exit requirements to ensure the safety of the students.

In my opinion, the success of a school lies not only in its strong foundation of facilities, but also in its school culture. And after I heard the introduction from Mr. Ng Boon Yew, the Chairman of Raffles Campus Pte Ltd, I was convinced that Excelsior International School is not only teaching children to study, but also cultivating children's creativity and leadership skills so that they will become well-rounded talents with international perspective.

Excelsior International School offers a comprehensive curriculum for students age 3 to 18 years old. The school offers Cambridge and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses. IB courses are recognized by many countries, so they set a solid foundation for students who are keen to study abroad in the future. These courses are based on the three pillars: academics, arts, and sports. By dividing students into groups, the school allows students to learn knowledge and enhance creativity through interaction and research, instead of rote learning.

At Excelsior International School, it is important that English serves as the language of teaching and communication. Therefore, the school adopts immersion teaching for students who are non-native English speakers to guide them to speak and use English.

This form of teaching immerses you in a complete English-speaking world so that everything you see and hear is in English, because English is the language used for communication, not just for academic studies. This teaching method may be worthwhile for many English educators in China to look at as well.

Certainly, apart from the immersive teaching of English, the school also provides opportunities for students to learn Chinese and Malay to ensure that students develop their language abilities comprehensively.

In addition, Excelsior International School adopts a small class teaching mode to promote interaction and feedback between teachers and students. Regarding this, Miss Lai, Vice president of Raffles Campus Pte Ltd, said, "Our school has a very open culture and learning environment. The one difference in our school is that we adopt the small class teaching mode, which we firmly believe in. We believe that when teachers have frequent interactions and contact with the students, they can tailor their teaching method and style to each student."

I think the small class teaching mode that Miss Lai mentioned is, to a large extent, a practice of Confucius' education philosophy of "teaching students in accordance with their aptitudes". The customized education for students can help them improve their grades and cultural literacy more effectively. However, many schools are unable to do this because of the shortage of teachers and the teachers' lack of experience.

Excelsior International School, which abides by the small class teaching mode, has hired a large number of outstanding teachers with rich international teaching experience from the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and other countries. The teachers here are required to have at least a Bachelor's Degree, and many of them have Master's and Doctoral Degrees.

Moreover, every teacher at Excelsior International School is approved by the Malaysian Ministry of Education and holds a valid employment visa on behalf of the school. The common concern among parents that schools may hire short-term relief teachers does not happen here.

这所国际学校叫Excelsior国际学校，归属于来自新加坡非盈利性的莱佛士教育基金会。莱佛士教育基金会不仅在马来西亚办学，还在新加坡、迪拜、印度都开办了的国际学校。

走进这所位于马来西亚的柔佛州新山的Excelsior国际学校，我便被这20英亩现代化的校园环境吸引。这所学校给人最直观的感受就是硬件设施非常齐全、非常现代化。

我在校园里看了大量的现代化硬件设施：符合奥运标准的50米游泳池，25米练习池、国际足联标准的人工草坪足球场、网球场、足以容纳500人的大礼堂、科学实验室等等。此外，Excelsior国际学校在学生安全方面也做得非常到位。所有出入校园的人员都必须严格地遵守登录退出规定，以保证学生们的安全。

我觉得一所学校的成功之处，不仅在于其拥有强大的硬件基础，更在于其软件方面的支持。而我听完莱佛士教育集团董事长吴先生（Ng Boon Yew）的介绍后，更是觉得Excelsior国际学校不仅是在教孩子们读书，更是在培养孩子们的创造力、领导力，将孩子培养成具有国际素养的国际人才。

我们先从教育课程来看，Excelsior国际学校为3——18岁的学生提供全面的教学课程。学校采用的是剑桥和IB课程。IB课程是主流留学国家都认可的，可为学生以后出国留学打下基础。这些课程立足于学术、艺术、体育这三个支柱。学校通过对孩子进行分组学习，让孩子在互动交流、探索研究中学到知识、提升创造力，而不是死读书、硬背书。

在Excelsior国际学校中，英语作为全校的教学沟通语言，是极其重要的。所以，学校对于母语非英语的学生，采用浸泡式的教学来引导学生说英语、用英语。

所谓浸泡式教学，就是让你完全进入英语世界，你看到的、听到的所有语言内容全部是英文。因为英语是一种语言，一种用来交流的语言，而不是学术研究。我觉得Excelsior国际学校的这种教学方式，值得中国的英语教育者们反思、学习。

当然，学校除了提供浸泡式的英语教学，还为学生提供学习中文、马来文的机会，以确保学生语言技能的全面发展。

另外，Excelsior国际学校采用小班教学的模式，以促进老师和学生的互动反馈。对此，莱佛士教育集团的副总裁赖小姐表示：学校的文化环境是非常具有开放式的，我们的学校由一个不同地方在于：我们采用小班教学模式，这是我们坚信的理念。因为我们相信当老师和学生有频繁的交流、接触后，他们能够为每一位学生量身定做比较适合的教学、学习方式。

我觉得赖小姐讲述的小班教学模式，很大程度上践行了孔子“因材施教”的教育理念，对学生进行个性化教育，可以帮助学生更快速地提高成绩、文化素养。但是很多学校因为教师资源匮乏、教师能力不足的原因，而做不到这点。

而Excelsior国际学校，聘请了大量来自英国、美国、澳洲等国家，拥有丰富国际教学经验的优秀教师。这里的老师必须拥有学士以上的学位，其中有很多一部分拥有硕士、甚至是博士的学位。

另外，Excelsior国际学校的每一位教师都由有马来西亚教育部批准，并以学校名义持有有效的就业签证。至于很多家长担心聘请背包客的情况，是不可能存在的。
